The surgery changes the way a person\u2019s stomach and small intestine handle the food that they eat. Since the stomach becomes smaller after a Gastric Bypass, the patient tends to feel full even if they consume less food than usual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Typically, the surgery involves creating a small pouch from the stomach. This pouch is then connected directly to the small intestine. It means that the swallowed food will transfer from the bag to the small intestine, bypassing a major area of the stomach and the first section of the small intestine. In addition to helping in weight loss, Gastric Bypass surgery also reduces the risks of other health-related ailments, such as heart diseases, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. It is also often called a mini gastric bypass in Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>When Should A Person Get A Gastric Bypass?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A person should get a Gastric Bypass surgery done when they are trying to lose their excess weight. Additionally, this may be a good option if they are obese and have not lost weight through exercise and diet. In addition to getting a complete physical exam, along with blood tests and an ultrasound of their gallbladder, the patient must also inform their doctor about any other health-related issues they may have.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the patient must also stop smoking a few weeks before the surgery and reduce their alcohol consumption. The smaller top area of the abdomen will then become a pouch, where the food will go. Typically, this pouch has a size similar to walnut and can hold only about 28 grams of the food. The patient will also need to walk a little and sit on the bed\u2019s side after the surgery. In some cases, they may have a catheter to drain out the fluids from their intestine, along with a separate catheter in their bladder for urine disposal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the surgeon will recommend them to only consume liquids for the first three to four days after the procedure, followed by pureed or soft foods for a couple of weeks.
