Non- Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is fast becoming one the commonest causes of liver damage that in some patients can progress to liver cirrhosis and liver failure. NAFLD is seen in up to 80% of obese patients. This liver damage is reversible at an early stage. Contrary to popular belief the treatment of fatty liver disease is not medication but to lose weight. So the best treatment is taking a healthy low fat diet combined with regular physical activity. Patients should stop alcohol. They should also be screened for infective Hepatitis.
\nBariatric surgery has been shown to reverse not only fatty liver but also Non- Alcoholic Steato-Hepatitis (NASH) when a liver biopsy was compared before and after surgery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
