At this clinic, less-invasive surgical methods and advanced diagnostic tools are offered to carry out treatment effectively.

Appendicitis – What You Should Know?

Infection in the appendix is appendicitis. This is situated on the right side of your abdomen. On the large intestine is this small pouch. Due to blocked factors such as lymphoid hyperplasia, faecal material and multiplication of bacteria, the infection forms and ignoring treatment can further cause burst appendix and other complications. The only means to deal with this is appendectomy.

What Are The Signs & Symptoms

Recognizing appendicitis during early stages is important and should not be ignored, here’s what you should know:

  • Throbbing pain around the belly button and then it moves to the lower-right abdomen calling for immediate medical attention
  • Irritation experienced in the abdominal lining. Increase in movements such as coughing or walking can worsen the pain
  • Feeling of nausea and lost appetite once the pain begins
  • Advancements in the inflammation results in chills and fever
  • There is a gut reaction and difficulty experienced when passing gas causes bloating, diarrhea, and constipation

These symptoms can differ for children and pregnant women. Continuous pain calls for immediate evaluation. Inadequately managing appendicitis can affect the abdominal cavity or form pus. Furthermore, if this is the case then there is a higher chance of increase in the risk of complications and delayed recovery. Diagnosis and early intervention isn’t just good for reducing the risk, but encourages laparoscopic treatment.

Diagnosing Appendicitis

According to our centre, quick and comprehensive treatment begins. Here’s how it is done:

  1. Studying history & physical exam – All clues related to the abdomen are observed. Symptoms, movement pain, intensity are all monitored.
  2. Tests & urine analysis – Other causes can be avoided with urianalysis and a big white blood cell count is checked. To find appendix, MRI, scan, or ultrasound is done.
  3. Risk assessment – Risk is assessed by checking on how complicated the condition of the appendicitis is. This finding helps with understanding the urgency for the treatment. Getting the right treatment at the right time avoids further complications, if any.

Expert Treatment Options

Appendectomy

Removal of the appendix is a standard therapy. There are ways of performing appendectomy, through laparoscopic appendectomy or open appendectomy. Laparoscopic is when small incisions are made and it is less painful with a few days of hospital stay. On the other hand, Open appendectomy requires larger incisions and this is the case if there is heavy scarring, rupture, or abscess.

Antibiotics

Under the guidance of a health specialist, when the appendicitis is not too severe, intake of antibiotics helps. Still, the ultimate promising treatment is a surgery as it reduces the chances of recurrence.

Real-time Monitoring

In our clinic, when abscess forms and the appendix bursts, we try the following means to treating appendicitis:

  • Radiologically draining the abscess
  • Waiting for the infection to come in control and delaying interval appendectomy

Procedure To Approaching Appendicitis

  1. Pre-surgical Evaluation & Workup

After the condition is diagnosed, the process of admitting the patient begins. IV fluids and antibiotics are given to initiate surgery.

  1. Operation Starts

Based on the condition, either laparoscopic or open surgery is chosen. Before beginning with the procedure, the patient is provided anaesthesia.

  1. Post-operative Care

If the surgery is not complicated you can expect to be in the hospital for 2 days. After surgery, the doctor will monitor your condition, take measures to manage pain, and slowly you will be given food to eat.

  1. Follow-Up Sessions

During discharge, certain instructions on wound care, diet, symptoms to pay attention to, amount of activity allowed will all be discussed. During all the follow-up sessions, you will be monitored well and there won’t be any complication of recurrence.

After getting laparoscopic surgery done, getting back to normal activities is possible within 2 weeks. However, for further physical work, it will take around 4 weeks and recovery in complicated cases will take a longer time.

Quick ways to recover from appendicitis

  1. Start walking when you feel comfortable after surgery – the more you push yourself to move, the more you can keep complications away.
  2. Eat a nutrient-rich diet, take it slow and follow the diet plan the doctor advises.
  3. Keep away from strenuous activities for a few days.
  4. Report to the doctor if you experience high fever, excess pain, or redness in the wound
  5. Go for all follow-up sessions to be sure you are healing
